Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews CATS CCBurleigh, June 8, 2002By Ros Bourke Today, Craig Mackie from Ffast Club achieved what everyone believed was impossible. He broke away from A Grade with a small group and together they lapped the rest of the 30+ A Grade field. Despite sitting on speeds at 50-60 km/h, the chasers were unable to pull back the break. This effort puts him in fine company along with Danny Clark, Robbie McEwen, Nathan O’Neill and Jim Burke. However, unlike his illustrious predecessors, Mackie was rewarded for his effort with a beautiful pair of Rudy Project sunnies donated by Robina Optical. The challenge is now on to see who can repeat this achievement! In the lower grades, Freddie Mason was forced into a dead heat with dark horse Dave McKeon and in E Grade, Ros Burke (who was riding as guard for the juniors) struggled to hold the 9 year olds who attacked each other all day. Next Sunday at Nerang a new format for A Grade will really sort out the drivers and sprinters! Meanwhile riders in all Grades are preparing for the Road team Time Trial State Championships in July.
