Iranian top climber Ghader Mizbani (Tabriz Petrochemical team) proved he is still one of the best in Asia for stages race with high mountains to climb. He was no match at the Speedy Tour d'Indonesia 2008 that finished in Kuta, island of Bali. Malaysian Ace sprinter Anuar Manan took the green sprinter's jersey. The Tour of Indonesia started Jakarta on the island of Java. From Jakarta, the capital, the peloton went to Bali, covering 1793 kilometres in 12 stages. Mizbani retained the yellow jersey that he snatched from his team mate Hossain Jahanbanian after winning the mountainous fifth stage on the central Java island. Mizbani led by 1.40 over his teammate Amir Zargari in second place and by 3.09 over Hossain Jahanbanian in third spot. Iran completed the domination by winning the teams classification as well. Second place went to local team Custom cycling club, 24.11 behind. Jazy Sport Beacon team of the Philippines was third at 34.40. For the green sprinter's jersey, Malaysian Ace sprinter Anuar Manan had no match since day one, and he kept the green jersey without any real challenges from the rest of the 85 riders of the 17 teams that took part. The six foreign teams dominated the 11 local teams. The local teams did not manage to win a stage. Malaysia had two teams (a national team and Kuala Lumpur) and won four stages. Tabriz riders won three stages, the Japanese national U23 team took two stages. Single stages wins went to Tinelli (New Zealand), Jazy Sport Beacon Team and Russian Artemy Timofee with team Polygon Sweet Nice. Indonesian top climber Tonton Susanto, 35, winner Le Tour de Langkawi in 1998 and 2002, performed well below his best. He was hammered by Ghader Mizbani and other Iranians in the crucial stage 5. Tonton lost around seven minutes from Mizbani and three other Iranians on a day that had the first category climb at Mount Merapi (1,500 metres above sea level). on the menu. The total prize money distributed during the 12 stages was US $100,000. The yellow jersey received US $7,000 and teams overall paid US $9,000. It was the first race since 2006. In 2007 the race was not held due to lack of sponsorship, after the cigarette company Dji Sam Soe stopped. They had supported the race from 2003 until 2006.
