Assan Bazayev takes first

Assan Bazayev of Team Astana has taken his first win of the season by topping Sergey Renez and Maxim Gourov in the Kazakhstan national championships.

Bazayev's team-mate, Dmitriy Muravyev, joined him in the decisive breakaway of eight riders. In the last kilometres of the race, Bazayev escaped with Renez and with 500 metres to go, went clear to win solo.

"Last season, I saw how proud my team-mate Maxim Iglinsky wore the Kazakhstan national jersey. I will wear my national colours with the same dignity and pride," stated the new champion in a team press release. Bazayev, from the capital of Astana, was full of pride with the jersey.

"I will try to win as many races as possible in my new jersey, in an effort to thank the Kazakh authorities for what they did for us the last few years." (GB)
