Savini gives Italy a fourth masterpiece in four days
Garcia Dapena preserves the lead

The 44th Presidential Tour of Turkey has seen the fourth stage win by an Italian rider in four days. After Alessandro Petacchi, Mirco Lorenzetto and Matteo Priamo, CSF-Navigare's Filippo Savini has repeated his success from the queen stage of Le Tour de Langkawi in Fraser's Hill in Malaysia in February.
"Winning such races once every one and half months can only please me," Savini commented. "I have dreamt about a day like today. I had imagined winning a race this way but there was a need for a bit of luck and the intuition was good as well. For a while, I've hoped to stay alone in the front. But the course was very hard, I knew from the race manual how long the last climb was but I didn't know how steep it was."
Savini, 22, from Solarolo near Faenza in Romagna, the home of Italian cycling legend Davide Cassani, is a shy guy who will not comment his exploits as they should be described. But he really signed a masterpiece, physically and tactically. It was a perfect Italian job once again in Ölüdeniz, a place sometimes promoted as the world's most beautiful beach, but Savini who is in search of a start at the Tour of Italy didn't get the opportunity to admire the turquoise sea near the finishing line.

David Garcia Dapena kept the yellow jersey without any tactical trouble. It was a question of calculating the deficit he could allow the leaders. Karpin-Galicia showed a strong power in the chase before getting some help from Benfica who defended Danail Petrov's position on GC.
"As long as we stayed within five minutes behind the breakaway, there was no danger for the overall classification," the Spaniard said. "Today was the most complicated stage to control. The next ones being shorter and looking easier on the profile in the race manual, I hope the hardest part of our defense is behind us."

The peloton of the Presidential Tour of Turkey took some time to admire the fabulous view on the bay of Marmaris but they quickly went for serious racing. After 15 kilometers, an escape of eight riders took shape, comprised of: David Cañada (Saunier Duval), Benoît Joachim (Astana), Rouslan Ivanov (Serramenti PVC-Diquigiovanni), Aïtor Perez (Extremadura), Vytautas Kaupas (Mitsubishi-Jartazi), Christoph Meschenmoser (Team Ista), Kuca Zanasca (Centri della Calzatura-Partizan) and Filippo Savini (CSF-Navigare).
It was the right composition, and the Karpin-Galicia team of race leader David Garcia Dapena took care of the chase. The breakaway got a maximum lead of seven minutes. With 53km to go, the gap went down to 5'42". At this stage, Benfica started giving a hand to Karpin-Galicia and the advantage of the leaders kept going down: 3'49" with 25km to go, 3'22" with 15km to go.

The hot spot sprint in Fethiye with 13.2km to go was won by Kaupas in front of Perez and Zanasca. The bunch was located at just over three minutes behind. Ivanov attacked with 12km to go. Savini, Perez and Cañada followed him. Joachim couldn't hold the pace in the climb. By himself, Savini went across to Ivanov and took the lead of the race on his own. He pursued his effort until he got a significant advantage for himself.
At the top of the last climb with 4km to go, he was 29 seconds ahead of Zanasca who had overtaken Savini, Perez, Cañada and Joachim one after one. Savini increased his lead to 38 seconds in the downhill and won the stage by 45 seconds.
Garcia Dapena finished in the bunch 2'13" behind Savini and kept the yellow jersey.
