Tour of Japan - 2.2Japan, May 20-27, 2007Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 2 - May 21: Todaiji Temple - Yamazoe-mura Nunome, 146.2 kmYoung Kazakh dominates the first hilly stageValentin Iglinskiy (Kazakhstan National team) won the 2nd stage of the 11th Tour of Japan, beating Frenchman Aurelien Passeron (Acqua & Sapone-Caffe Mokambo) in the uphill sprint to the line. Iglinkskiy, in the blue points leader's jersey, added the green leader's jersey to his wardrobe, taking it off the shoulders of Japan's Takashi Miyazawa (Nippo corporation-Meitan Hompo-Equipe Asada). Iglinskiy was part of a five man breakaway that went clear in the final circuits, and was able to distance the previous green jersey holder Miyazawa by five seconds. ''I stayed in the peloton all the time and I didn't think that I could win today, because a big group broke from the peloton. I didn't know I would win the stage until I crossed the finish line first,'' said the 23 year old Iglinskiy, whose older brother Maxim races for the ProTour squad Astana. The win was important for the Kazakh team, several riders of which came from the former Asian Continental Team Capec, which lost its title sponsor in February when Capec did not renew. Team Manager Vladimir Remyga is looking for the new sponsor for the next season, and the win will be a good bargaining chip for the Kazakh team. Although it will be difficult for Iglinskiy to keep the leader's jersey until the final stage in Tokyo, he said, ''I want to win one more stage, but I will not keep the green jersey because I'm weak in time trial. So, I'll try to keep my blue point jersey.'' How it unfolded94 riders started in front of the Todaiji Temple under the clear sky. The peloton was still all together at the first lap on the Nunome Dam circuit. Akira Kakinuma (Team Miyata) and Ysutaka Tashiro (Team Bridgestone Anchor) attacked from the peloton at 11 laps to go, but the advantage was kept to less than 1 minutes by the peloton. With eight laps to go, nine riders including Kam Po Wong (Hong Kong Pro Cycling), Arexandr Dyachenko (Kazakhstan National Team), Shinichi Fukushima and Yukiya Arashiro (Nippo corporation-Meitan Hompo-Equipe Asadaand), Taiji Nishitani (Aisan Racing Team), Andrea Rossi (Acqua & Sapone-Caffe Mokambo) jumped up from the peloton and joined the two Japanese. The break had a lead of around 30 seconds to the Skil-Shimano led peloton. Fukushima attacked the breakaway with five laps remaining and built up a ten second lead before Dyachenko, Nishitani and Arashiro joined him at the final hill with three laps to go. The Acqua & Sapone riders Aurelien Passeron and Francesco Di Paolo accelerated and caught them on the final laps. The French sprinter missed out on the sprint in stage one when he had chain trouble, and looked to be well on his way to a win when he took the lead at 300 to go, but Iglinskiy was on his wheel and jumped around just before the line to take the win.
