Both Belgian Nick Nuyens (Cofidis) and Frenchman Sébastien Chavanel (Française Des Jeux) gave their teams confirmation of smart off-season signings. Nuyens, switching from Quick-Step this last winter, with his stage win on Friday, moved into the overall lead and, today, took the 37th Etoile de Bessèges overall. Meanwhile, long-time French hopeful, Chavanel, has found his winning legs early in the season, proving so by taking the sprint win over Italian Angelo Furlan (Crédit Agricole), winner of stage 1.
Nuyens appears to be in fine form with the round of Northern Classics only one month away, where he will give Cofidis some much needed muscle.
