Will history repeat itself?

After Thomas Frischknecht won the Mountain bike gold medal in Atlanta in 1996, he was asked if he could jump in the road race for a rider who couldn't make it - with one day of recovery! Frischknecht went on to help Pascal Richard a lot in order to win the stage race. Now the question is if Nino Schurter can do the same - the off-road specialist will be riding for the Swiss team in one of the most prestigious races for young riders in Europe.
It will be only national teams, plus one mixed team, who are participating in this five-day race in Switzerland. The host country is hoping for its first win in 10 years, while the Austrians hope to defend the title.
The race will start off again with a 2-kilometre prologue in Luzern before heading along the Vierwaldstätter See for a nice 150-kilometre loop from Littau to Littau in stage one. The next day, 141 kilometres between Campus Sursee and Buttisholz, is a bit hillier. Even the circuit race in Zell the next day is a constant up and down.
The final day between Chur and Arosa brings the real mountains as the finish is at 1739 metres high. If there wasn't a decision in the overall already, Arosa will make sure the suspense is over!
