43rd Escalada a Montjüic - 1.2Spain, October 15, 20062005 Results Results Past winners Antón drops Rodriguez in MontjuicBy Antonio J. Salmerón The Basque Igor Anton (Euskaltel-Euskadi) has won the Escalada a Montjuic, in Barcelona, after showing his superiority in the race against the clock and finishing the road stage in the same time as the winner, Joaquim Rodriguez (Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears). The Spanish event, as every year, included a 25km road race criterium followed by a 8.6km time trial, in which the young promise Antón, who also in the final stage on the Calar Alto climb in the last Vuelta, snatched away the victory from neo-pro Alberto Losada (Kaiku), with Rodriguez finishing third. Rodriguez attacked during the last lap, accompained by Antón, David Cañada (Saunier Duval-Prodir), Juan-Antonio Flecha (Rabobank), Alberto Losada (Kaiku) and Carlos Sastre (Team CSC). Oscar Pereiro (Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears) led the race in the four first laps of the circuit in a solo breakaway, but could not hold the rate imposed by his teammate Rodriguez as the chasers caught him. Rodriguez won the sprint ahead of Anton and Losada. But Rodríguez, who had already scored the Escalada a Montjuic in 2001 and finished third in the three last editions, finally could not match Anton's power and lost 12 seconds on the Euskaltel-Euskadi rider in the time trial stage, where Losada was second, eight seconds off.
