Sylvain Greiner resists flying Dutchmen

Sylvain Greiner of the French national team has won the overall title at the Trophée Centre-Morbihan, one of the most significant international stage races for juniors, held in Brittany. In teh final stage, Greiner maintained a six second lead over Dutchman Lars Vierbergen from DCMP-Vorselaar, who attacked strongly during the last stage.
Another Dutchman was the first to take the honours on Saturday when Raymond Kreder outsprinted Sylvain Greiner and Guillaume Belgy. It was an easy win by this year's winner of Paris-Roubaix Juniors. He jumped from the bunch and rejoined the breakaway during the last lap of 5km, then profited from Belgy's long lasting effort and had plenty of time to put is arms up as he approached the finishing line.
Kreder is very young, even in junior racing. Born on November 26, 1989, he is following the path of his older brother Michel who was also successful in Brittany when he won the Route de l'Avenir last year before joining continental team Unibet-Davo, but he isn't a top time triallist yet. In that respect he's different from his team-mate Maurice Vrijmoed, who was the other hero of Paris-Roubaix Juniors last month.
But Vrijmoed had to give credit to the achievemnt of two Frenchmen who on Sunday morning beat the record of Morbihan's traditional second-stage 7.5km time trial, held by Caisse d'Épargne's Florent Brard since 1994. Brard's time of 9.36 stood for 12 years. Now Etienne Pieret is the new record holder with 9.26. Greiner rode only 5 seconds slower than the French time trial champion and took the yellow jersey.
Respectively 29 and 30 seconds behind on general classification, Vrijmoed and Vierbergen tried their best during the last stage. "I didn't even realize they were gone", Greiner said. The race leader suffered cramps with 50km to go but he hung on. Away with Breton rider Nicolas David, Vierbergen was the virtual winner with 1km to go but the last effort by the French national gave Greiner the final win.
These are a few names to remember for the future.
