Tour of Siam - 2.2Thailand, January 15-21, 2006Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 6 - January 20: Khao Lak (Phang Nga) - Saphan Hin (Phuket), 153.90 kmRabou grabs yellow as Kin San Wu takes stageBy Melissa Smith Stage 6 of the tour was taken out by winner of the yellow jersey and multiple stage winner of the recent Tour of South China Sea, Kin San Wu (Hong Kong Shanghai Sports Institute). In a very close sprint for second and third were Shinichi Fukushima (Japan National Team) and Bjorn Glasner (Team Farso). The City of Perth Team had to hand over the yellow jersey today to Marco Polo rider Thomas Rabou (Denmark) after he gained a four minute lead over Hollands. How it unfoldedThe 154km stage took the riders from Khao Lak (Phang Nga) to Saphan Hin (Phuket). The stage began similarly to previous days with several attacks being attempted in the first 10km of the race. A group of ten riders led by a minute while several riders back in the peloton tried to attack to bridge this time gap. A group of approximately 20 managed to break away from the peloton, and quickly gained one minute on the main bunch, trailing the leaders by a minute. At the 70km mark these two front groups joined together. The large breakaway's advantage was ensured by powerful riding from the Marco Polo team. The stage winner Kin San Wu (Hong Kong) told Cyclingnews that riders began to attack the leading breakaway with 40km to go. "In the last 30km Shinichi and I broke away and took a lead of one minute," he said. "In the last 500m, the race organisers made a mistake and led us the wrong way, allowing the first group to catch up. But we responded very quickly, got back to the race route and crossed the finish." On previous days Kin San Wu rode strongly and looked threatening while still protecting his team mate, Wang Yip Tang, holder of the white jersey. In stage 6 Kin San Wu demonstrated his talent as a young, classy rider, a name to look for in the future. Marco Polo's hard work during the 6th stage was rewarded by the yellow jersey being handed over to their rider Thomas Rabou (Denmark). Coming into the last day of the tour of Siam he holds the lead by one minute and 10 seconds. The undulating circuit of Phuket for Stage 7 will prove extremely testing. Marco Polo will have to continue to ride strongly and remain a cohesive unit to protect the yellow jersey.
