Tour of Siam - 2.2Thailand, January 15-21, 2006Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 4 - January 18: Chumphon - Ranong, 124.3 kmLead changes on stage 4By Melissa Smith in Chumphorn The stage win went to the Japanese rider Takashi Miyazawa from the Japan National Team on the fourth day of the Tour of Siam. Miyazawa beat his breakaway companion Dean Iverson (Team Farso) in a two man sprint, with Iverson's teammate Bjorn Glasner taking third at 19 seconds. The race leadership changed hands after today, as Edmund Hollands from the City of Perth Team took over the overall classification and will wear the yellow jersey in stage 5. Takashi was extremely pleased with his stage win today. "I was concerned when I saw Hollands in the breakaway today because I knew he was a threat to the yellow jersey," he told Cyclingnews. "I attacked with 10km to go and I knew I could win from there." When asked about his plans for the remainder of the tour, Takashi said his team wants to get the yellow jersey back. "We will watch the City of Perth Team for an attack tomorrow. If Koji can attack, it is better for us. If not, I will win the stage." How it unfoldedWith the hot weather continuing to punish the riders the 124.3km stage began at 10:30am in Chumphorn. In the first 5km of the fourth stage, 15 riders attempted an early breakaway but were unsuccessful. This set the scene for a number of riders wishing to make up time on GC and go for a stage victory. 69km into the race, four riders made a break and were two minutes ahead within 6km. The first mountain sprint at the 90km mark went to Takashi Miyazawa (Japan National Team). The undulating course quickly split the peloton into smaller groups of riders. With 20km to go, seven riders were ahead of the peloton by 46 seconds. This group included City of Perth rider Edmund Hollands, who picked up a 3 second time bonus in the first intermediate sprint which advanced his GC position to second place. At 10km to the finish, Takashi attacked the breakaway and rode to the finish line victoriously. Unfortunately, his teammate and holder of the yellow jersey suffered a puncture at 10km to go and lost his overall lead to Edmund Hollands. Hollands later referred to Koji's puncture as "very unfortunate...I didn't mean to get the yellow, I just fell into it." When asked about his plans for stage 5, he said he would like to keep the jersey but does not want to sit on the front for the remaining days.
