Tour of Siam - 2.2Thailand, January 15-21, 2006Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 2 - January 16: Hua Hin - Prachuap Khiri Khan, 117.20 kmNielsen solos to successMelissa Smith in in Prachuap Khiri Khan Jacob Nielsen from the Danish team Glud & Marstrand was the winner of the second stage of the Tour of Siam, crossing the line 10 seconds head of Jamsran Ulzii-Orshikh from the Marco Polo team and Koji Fukushima from the Japan National Team. Although the yellow jersey changed hands today, it remains in the firm grasp of the Fukushima family with Shinichi handing it over to his brother and teammate Koji. Koji's efforts today have ensured that the yellow and green jerseys remain with the Japanese National Team. Nielsen held the yellow jersey in last year's tour, but said that as he is two minutes down on GC, he has too much of a gap to close. However, he has his hopes set on another stage win. The yellow jersey winner Koji Fukushima commented on the heat making the race very difficult. "My strategy was to remain in the front of the peloton and attack all day. I am very happy with how the race went today," he recalled, crediting his tough training as the key to his success so far. On another scorching hot day the peloton and entourage began the 117.2km journey at 1pm. And once again the race began at high speeds of up to 60km/h. There were numerous attacks in the first 20km of the race, each being brought back by the peloton. Nielsen, the stage winner was involved in a crash in the middle of the race, but he was able to re-join the peloton in time for the crucial breakaway. Three riders were able to get away from this group and Nielsen rode away from them at 8 km to go to snatch the stage win for today.
