Leblacher proves himself

Eric Leblacher (Francaise Des Jeux) has won the third stage of Etoile de Bessèges, soloing to victory after dropping the other members of a 14-rider break on the steepest section of the Col de la Baraque. Leblacher's team-mate Sébastien Joly was second ahead of Steven Cummings (Landbouwkrediet - Colnago).
"I felt I had the strength to go alone," said Leblacher. "[FDJ directeur sportif Marc] Madiot had told Sébastien Joly and me that this was where we should attack."
For Leblacher it was a ride of vindication after a disastrous year at Crédit Agricole in which he broke his collarbone twice and his contract was not renewed. "This [win] simply liberates me," he told Cyclismag . ""They were starting to call me Jacky Durand, the guy who always escapes but never wins."
