Stage 3 - February 7: Pollença - Port De Pollença (Mirador), 149.6 km
Bernabeu and Sanchez give 1-2 to Comunidad Valenciana

The Comunidad Valenciana team struck back at Caisse d'Epargne in the third stage of the Challenge Illes Balears, the Trofeo Pollença. David Bernabeu and Julian Sanchez finished first and second in the tough stage, with Quick.Step's Paolo Bettini again showing his consistency to take third place. The general classification changed completely, with the new leaders being identical to the top three in the stage.
The 149.6 km stage started in Pollença and finished on the Cat. 2 Mirador des Colomer just above the city. After two sprinters' stages, today was a chance for the climbers to take revenge, with two Cat. 2 and one Cat. 1 climbs to be tackled. Race leader Isaac Galvez (Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears) had left the Challenge to prepare for the Tour of the Mediterranean, and his team didn't have too much pressure on it to control the stage at the start. Instead, Comunidad Valenciana took over the reigns.
Once again, a two man break dominated the early proceedings, with David de la Fuente (Saunier Duval) and Beñat Albizuri (Euskaltel) escaping for some time, gaining at most two minutes before they were pulled back with 60 km to go. Iñaki Isasi (Euskaltel) and Thomas Ziegler (T- Mobile) countered a few kilometres later, but their move was not allowed to go.
Comunidad Valenciana and Rabobank set a tough pace on the final ascent to Mirador des Colomer, and it looked like Paolo Bettini (Quick.Step) was hunting for a victory after sitting near the front. But he couldn't quite follow Bernabeu's acceleration at the end, and had to settle for third behind Bernabeu and Sanchez.
Tomorrow's fourth stage will be between Soller and Puerto de Soller over 150.6 km. There are more mountains in store, including the Cat. 2 Soller, Battalla (done twice) and Puig Major.
