Voigt can't stop winning

By Susan Westemeyer

Jens Voigt enters a race in Germany, Jens Voigt wins - it's just that simple these days. The CSC rider took his seventh victory within 12 days, winning the Sparkassen-Giro in Bochum, Germany.

The race took place on a city round course, which was ridden 12 times. On the eighth lap, a quartet of riders broke away but were unable to gain a significant lead in the light rain. Two laps later, the peloton went in hot pursuit of the four. They were overtaken just before the end of the next to last lap. On the final lapa, Voigt made his break about six kilometres before the finish and held on to take the win.

20 seconds later, T-Mobile's Andre Korff finished second, winning the peloton's sprint ahead of Milram's Erik Zabel. T-Mobile stagiaire Mark Cavendish finished a strong fourth, outsprinting such names as Gerolsteiner's David Kopp and Lamonta's Danilo Hondo.
