15th Trofeo Melinda - 1.1Italy, August 31, 20062005 Results Results Past winners Garzelli wins the Trofeo MelindaLiquigas press release After a very demanding 194 kilometres, Stefano Garzelli has won the Trofeo Melinda. The Liquigas rider crowned an excellent performance from the whole team, who kept the race under control from beginning to end. After Andrea Noè had done a lot of work early in the peace, Vincenzo Nibali and Franco Pellizotti took turns at the front of the race to protect Garzelli, who had also managed to conserve his energy. The rider from Varese attacked with five kilometres to go and only Milram's Giovanni Visconti stayed on his wheel. With three kilometres to go, Garzelli did most of the work till the final sprint, which he won with authority. Said Garzelli: "I was going to keep in peak form as long as possible. I can say to have hit my goal. In truth, I feel better day by day. Today, like in the latest races, I've felt better in the last kilometres than at the beginning of the race. I must thank my team for their great support and I'm optimistic about next races." PhotographyFor a thumbnail gallery of these images, click here Images by Fotoreporter Sirotti
