81st Rund um die Hainleite - 1.1Germany, August 12, 20062005 Results Results Past winners Voigt strikes againBy Susan Westemeyer Jens Voigt seems to be unstoppable in German races this summer, as he proved by winning the Rund um die Hainleite race in Erfurt, He pulled away on the second of five laps at the end of the race, soloing in to win by 41 seconds over Wiesenhof's Robert Retschke. Frederic Amorison of Landbouwkrediet was third. The early part of the race was dominated by the trio of Paul Voss (Team Heinz von Heiden), Leon van Bon (Davitamon) and Kurt-Asle Arvesen (CSC). They held up to a 4'35 advantage, until Milram, T-Mobile and Gerolsteiner lead the chase in the pouring rain The advantage melted to 90 seconds by the first lap of the end course, when Arvesen took off alone, and the chasing peloton fell apart from the high speed. On the second round, Jens Lang (team) took the lead, and Voigt simply followed him. "I had to force myself. But I quickly noticed that I was doing well on the climb." At the top of the climb he was alone - and stayed that way until the end. "Somehow, my motor seems to be running by itself and all I have to do is steer it," said Voigt after his 51st pro victory. "The Hainleite was important for me. I rode it as junior - but never won it." "At the moment he's untouchable. He has so much strength, as he has been able to keep his top shape after the Tour de France," said CSC directeur-sportif Tristan Hoffman on team-csc.com. "The other teams took turns trying to catch him, and other riders tried to bridge the gap, but they just couldn't reel him in." The race also saw the Alessandro Petacchi continue his comeback to racing after breaking his kneecap. "I'm happy to be racing again," said the Milram sprinter. "Even if the conditions weren't optimal for me."
