79th Giro di Toscana - 1.1Italy, April 30, 20062005 Results Results Past winners Niemec takes big win in ToscanaBy Gianmarco Cilli Przemyslaw Niemec of the Miche squad has won the 79th Giro di Toscana. It is his first win of the season and the sixth of his professional career. Niemec burned his seven breakaway companions to take out the win in the rain in Arezzo after 198 kilometres in the saddle. The 26 year old Polish rider attacked at 800 meters to go and finished with a two second gap to the rest of the field. The best of the rest was Giuliano Figueras (Lampre-Fondital). Figueras' teammate Damiano Cunego was hoping to win this race as he did in his magical 2004 season, and it was to be his last before the start of Giro d'Italia. Instead he abandoned the race for reasons not yet known. Until the abandon, Cunego had been mimicking his 2004 form by winning all of the races he had won in his 2004 lead-up to the Giro d'Italia, namely the Giro del Trentino and GP Larciano.
