Chas Messenger stage race - NEUK, April 29-May 1, 2006Stage 1 - April 29: Hillingdon circuitGibb takes first stage and early leadBy Ian Chatfield After numerous attacks a group of 3 Duncan Urquhart (Agisko-Dart-Cyclingtv), Pete Williams (Kenisis UK) and Tom Hemmant (London Dynamo/Cyclefit) managed to forge a break at the half way stage of the 64km stage. However with the six riders from Plowman Craven RT riding to the fore of the bunch this was limited to about 20 seconds. By 15 laps to go it was all back together resulting in a bunch sprint led out to perfection by the Plowman Craven squad for Tony Gibb to take the stage from Simon Gaywood (CC Luton) and Malcolm Elliot also from Plowman. The final three laps were marred by a crash, with all completing stage riders given the same time by the race panel. All unable to finish were given 1 lap time. The fastest lap of the day being 2mins 03 secs.
