New Zealand National Championships - CNNew Zealand, October 20-23, 2005Main Page Results Overall standings Next Day Day 1 - October 20: Time TrialsUlmer on track for Commonwealth GamesBy Alan Messenger Sarah Ulmer booked her ticket to Melbourne for next year's Commonwealth Games when she won the New Zealand Title in her new major event, the road time trial at the New Zealand Road Nationals at Palmerston North on Thursday. The Olympic track gold medalist recorded 36'31 on an undulating 25k course to beat her Te Awamutu clubmate and fellow New Zealand representative Melissa Holt by 1'52. Ulmer missed the World Championships at Madrid through illness, but said that she was loving the new challenge that the road time trial gave her. BikeNZ High Performance Director Michael Flynn was impressed with Ulmer's ride. "It was an excellent performance by Sarah," said Flynn. "She has trained locally since coming back from overseas and she just loves competition." Robin Reid took out the senior men's Title, riding the 40k in a quick 54'21.
