Stage 6 - March 25: Barentu - Agordat TTT, 40km

Red Sea wins the TTT

By Oyéshiku Carr

Stage six was a short 40 km team test against the clock that started from outside Barentu and ended in the center of Agordat. In an unusual twist, teams were made up of only four riders allowing some of the bigger squads to rest their leaders - in effect, a second rest day. Twelve of the remaining thirteen teams raced today, the exception being team Vivi who has only two riders left in the field after losing a rider to a crash on the descent of Adokolum early in yesterday's race. Eric Ruesing (Marco Polo) also did not race.

The Red Sea boys posted the fastest time over the 40 km with Telecom and As.be.co finishing second and third. The result was no surprise as these are the three teams vying for overall team honors. Tomorrow’s penultimate Stage 7 heads from Keren to Asmara taking in the ascents of Elaberet, Libetigray, Adokolum, and Tokur over 91 km.
