Race 3 - March 6: Elite Women's Road Race

Van Wyk surprises

In the women's race Ronel van Wyk (Bionic) served up the surprise of the day when she outfoxed the recognised SA women's teams to snatch a sprint victory ahead of defending champion Anriette Schoeman (Proline Super CD) and Microsoft's Anke Erlank.

Van Wyk was ridden off on the final climb of the day but managed to get back with a few hundred metres to go. Schoeman, always the most watched rider in the women's peloton, was covering attack after attack in the final 5km and just couldn't muster the leg strength to match Van Wyk in the sprint.

In the junior road race Jacques Janse van Rensburg got the win after staying away for more than half of the race with his Barloworld teammate (the junior team this time) Jaco Venter crossing the line in second.
