International Cycling Classic - Superweek - NEUSA, July 8 -24, 2005Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 13 - July 19 : Cingular of Whitefish Bay Lake Front Road Race, Milwaukee, WI, 150kmHenderson Soloes To Win At Lake FrontGreg Henderson (Health Net/Maxxis) won today's Cingular of Whitefish Bay Lake Front Road Race in convincing fashion, dropping his long-time breakaway partner and yesterday's winner Brian Jensen (HRRC/Saddlewood) to cross the line alone. Henderson and Jensen rolled off the front of the field at the half-way point in the race which is held near downtown Milwaukee on a scenic course overlooking Lake Michigan. The two riders moved out to a 2.5 minute lead over the group containing series leader Karl Menzies (Advantage Benefits/Endeavour) and did not relinquish it. Menzies finished 13th to retain the yellow jersey followed by teammate Richard England who moved into 2nd place overall. Today's race was shortened to approximately 75 miles due to time constraints so there was no shortage of early action in the race. Early breakaway attempts were nullified by the Advantage Benefits/Endeavour team until Jensen and Henderson escaped. Both riders are recent arrivals at the series and did not pose a threat to the overall leaders, so they stretched their lead while several chasing riders were mopped up by the yellow jersey group. On the final lap of the 4.2-mile circuit Henderson dropped Jensen, going on to win by over 45 seconds as the yellow jersey group splintered behind. With five races remaining in the Superweek Pro Tour the action shifts north to the Bellin Health De Pere Cycling Classic on Wednesday. Although Menzies enjoys a 25-point lead in the overall standings, only 21 points separate the next 5 places and Emile Abraham (Team Monex) holds a slim two-point lead in the Midwest Airlines Sprint Competition which resumes after a two-day hiatus. With 12 days of racing already completed it will become a test of endurance to see which teams and riders are the strongest as the series draws to a close.
