Stage 4 - February 19: Castro Marin -Tavira, 155 km
Eisel strengthens his grip

Austrian Bernhard Eisel (Francaise des Jeux) has extended his overall lead in the Volta ao Algarve by winning the fourth stage from Castro Marin to Tavira. Eisel, who won stage 1, beat Stuart O'Grady (Cofidis) and Fabian Wegmann (Gerolsteiner) in yet another bunch sprint. These three are also the top three on the general classification, with Eisel going into tomorrow's final stage with a 7 second gap over O'Grady, and 22 seconds on Wegmann.
After an early series of attacks split the peloton into two big groups, the 155 km stage was dominated by an attack from Sérgio Herrero (Madeinox-A.R. Canela) who escaped after 65 km and was caught by Geert Verheyen (Landbouwkrediet-Colnago), Hugo Sabido (Paredes) and Juan Olmo (Duja-Tavira). The group managed a lead of 2'10 by the 108 km mark, but the peloton had them well under control and they were all swept up with less than 5 km to go. Eisel won his second stage while O'Grady and Wegmann took enough bonus seconds to move themselves up the general classification.
