Cape Argus Sanlam Cycle Tour - NESouth Africa, December 11, 2005Franco Marvulli wins the 2005 Cape Argus Sanlam Cycle TourSwiss national Franco Marvulli, riding as a guest of Team CVT/CSC, won the 118 km Cape Argus Sanlam Cycle Tour, held in Bellville, Cape Town, on Sunday, 11 December. The event marked the last major cycle tour for 2005, and was attended by top riders from across South Africa. With only a few centimetres separating the first three riders, Marvulli out-sprinted Steffen Radochla (Wiesenhof) into second place while Herman Fouche (Barloworld), winner of the 2005 Amashovashova, was third. The race, held in windy conditions, was characterized by a number of breakaways and constant attacks out front, however, the last two climbs brought the leading riders back together for an exciting sprint finish outside the Bellville Velodrome. Franco Marvulli is a former world champion (2003 Open and Madison) and won silver at the 2004 Olympics. Like many European-based riders, Franco is a regular visitor to South Africa taking advantage of the ideal conditions for pre-2006 season training.
