52nd Coppa Sabatini - 1.2Italy, September 23, 20042003 Results Results Past winners Ullrich in formIn a sure sign that he is ready for the World Championships next week, Jan Ullrich has taken the 52nd Coppa Sabatini in a three man sprint ahead of other World's candidates Franco Pellizotti (Alessio Bianchi) and Michael Boogerd (Rabobank). "After I made my decision to start the road race and the time trial at the World's in Verona, these races increased in importance to me," said the German. "This win is a timely boost to my preparations." The three escaped with 12 km to go on the last lap of the race. Pellizotti was the first to attack, followed by Ullrich and Boogerd. The finishing margin was 14 seconds to the next group, which was led home by Uros Murn (Phonak). The 197 km race was otherwise dominated by a three man breakaway containing Ruggero Marzoli (Acqua&Sapone), Fortunato Baliani (Panaria) and Juan José Cobo Acebo (Saunier Duval). After gaining more than 11 minutes at one stage, Marzoli hung on for the longest and was away for 166 km. PhotographyImages by Fotoreporter Sirotti
