Nuyens unstoppable

Young Belgian Nick Nuyens (Quick.Step-Davitamon) scored his third win in eight days in the 59th GP Industria e Commercio di Prato, taking a 12 man sprint ahead of Francesco Bellotti (Barloworld) and Mirko Celestino (Saeco). The expected battle between Paolo Bettini and Davide Rebellin didn't happen, and once again it was Bettini's rapid teammate Nuyens who got himself into the winning break and finished it off.

In fact, Davide Rebellin didn't even start the race as he had to fly to Buenos Aires on Saturday night to finalise his Argentinean citizenship. Bettini had a fairly quiet race, and did not make the break when it escaped on the fifth ascent of the Seano climb. Apart from Nuyens, Bellotti and Celestino, the break also contained Nardello (T-Mobile), Hamburger (Acqua&Sapone), Barbero (Lampre), Simeoni (Domina-Vacanze), Pugaci (De Nardi), Faresin (Gerolsteiner) and Cappe (Formaggi Pinzolo Fiavè). The big riders such as Bartoli, Basso and Simoni reacted too late, and the leading group stayed away until the finish where Nuyens took yet another impressive win. The peloton finished over 10 minutes behind.
