Tour de Hokkaido - 2.5Japan, September 15-20, 2004Prologue - September 15: Sapporo ITT, 2.6 kmNishitani beats McCann in prologueBy Shane Stokes, Irishcycling.com The new Irish national time trial champion David McCann redisplayed his ability against the clock when he finished a second in the prologue time trial of the Tour of Hokkaido in Japan. McCann completed the 2.6 kilometre course in a time of 3 minutes and 6 seconds, 2 seconds off the winning pace set by Japanese rider Taiji Nishitani. McCann won the race outright three years ago and looks set for another good performance this week, although he said before the race that his biggest priority was to build form for his ride in the world time trial championships in Verona at the end of the month. "I won the event in 2001 but I may have to ride it differently this time in order to prepare for Italy," he said. "It would do me no harm to ride for one of my team mates for a change. There’s nothing better than a bit of donkey-work to get you into shape." The 2.5 ranked Tour de Hokkaido continues with a 185 kilometre road race from Sapporo to Date.
