Tour of Ulster - NEIreland, May 1-3, 2004Main Page Results Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 2 - May 2: Omagh, 75 milesCassidy takes second stageBy Shane Stokes, irishcycling.com Cycleways Lee Strand veteran Philip Cassidy won today's second stage of the Tour of Ulster, outsprinting new overall leader Rory Wyley (Cidona Carrick Wheelers) and Tommy Evans (Totalcycling.com/Litespeed) to the finish in Omagh. Ben Morrow (East Antrim/Audi) and Bill Moore (Stamullen M. Donnelly) both finished 32 seconds back while overnight leader Timmy Barry (Cidona Carrick Wheelers) and second-placed David O'Loughlin (Totalcycling.com/Litespeed) were both 1 minute and 53 seconds down after the 75 mile stage. Barry and O'Loughlin missed a twenty-man move which went clear after twenty miles of racing and opened up a maximum lead of four minutes. Their group chased hard but was unable to get back on terms before the finish. The 75 mile stage saw the riders scale the tough climbs of Correll Glen, Glenasheevar and Scraghey Mountain, with Ben Morrow (East Antrim Audi) taking the first prime and Denis Lynch (Cork Select) the next two. A six man group went clear on the run-in to Castlederg, Tommy Evans (Total Cycling), Philip Cassidy (Cycleways), Rory Wylie (Carrick-Cidona), Bill Moore (Stamullen M. Donnelly) Morrow and Lynch (Cork Select) joining forces in opening a good lead. Evans made a big attack with five kilometres remaining, taking Cassidy and Wyley with him and paving the way for the former's sprint win. Wyley finished second in the gallop and took over the race leader's yellow jersey.
