8th Tour of Japan - 2.5Japan, May 23-30, 2004Main Page Results Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 4 - May 28: Circuit in Twin Ring Motegi, Motegi, 148.56kmSchulze wins bunch sprintBy Miwako Sasaki, Japan Cycle Sports German Andre Schulze (VC Frankfurt-Radteam-Bruegelman) has won the fourth stage of the Tour of Japan ahead of Mariusz Wiesiak (Team Nippo) and Edmund Hollands (Giant Asia Racing Team). The race was held on a Motor Circuit over 12 laps of 12.38 km and it was very fast. Five riders made a breakaway after two laps containing two Australians: Aaron Kemps (Australia National Team), Glen Chadwick (Giant Asia Racing Team), Canadian Andrew Randell (Jet Fuel Coffee), Spaniard Miguel Luis Peńa (Team Etxeondo) and Japanese sprinter Takehiro Mizutani (Team Bridgestone Anchor). At 5 laps to go, the break had a 5'00 advantage to the peloton which was controlled by the race leader's Aisan Ind. Racing Team. But the gap decreased quickly from then on. At two laps to go, Randell jumped clear of the break and tried to stay away solo, but the peloton caught him. Schulze, who was second in the first stage, won the bunch sprint. Takumi Beppu (Aisan Ind. Racing Team) finished with the bunch, and kept his green leader's jersey. The final hilly stage of the ToJ will take place in Utsunomiya tomorrow, and this year's overall winner will be decided there. Australian National Team ReportBy Brian Stephens, Australian Under 23 Team Manager The fourth stage of the Tour of Japan was raced today on the Motegi motor racing circuit. The course was undulating and there was a fairly stiff breeze blowing across the circuit. The attacks started from the gun and the first one of consequence was made up of five riders including Australians Aaron Kemps riding for the National team and Glen Chadwick for Giant Asia. All but one rider from Exteondo, worked hard in the break and the lead got out to over four minutes. Aaron won three intermediate sprints, putting him in the lead of the competition. Eventually the break was shut down in the final lap and the race was decided in a bunch sprint won by Frankfurt rider, Andre Schultze. Eddie Hollands, David Betts and Nick Sanderson were 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.
