Tour of Connecticut - NEUSA, May 16-23, 2004Main Page Results Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 2 - May 20: Lime Rock Park circuit race, 50kmFraser takes sprint win in stage 2Official race report HealthNet's Gord Fraser outsprinted the Team Colvita duo of Juan Jose Haedo and overall race leader Mark McCormack to win Stage 2 of the Tour of Connecticut. The short, 50-kilometer stage was held on the in Lime Rock Park auto racing track and provided a high-speed spectacle for the fans, with the 50 k being covered in just over one-hour. Olympic Champion Marty Nothstein, holder of the Green Points Sprints Jersey, confirmed his position at the head of that special classification by taking all three of the intermediary sprints on the day. Nothstein faded in the final rush to the line to finish 11th. The high speed and relative short distance of the event crushed any breakaway attempts until the last lap when the Yellow Jersey McCormack put in a violent attack on the back straight hill, opened a ten-second gap, and held it until Fraser and Haedo passed him with 50 meters to the line. McCormack's third place gives the current US Pro Champions 13 points in the Tour of Connecticut standings (race is decided on points totals rather than time) and with his victory in the opening stage in Litchfield Hills, places him at 53 points, 19 points ahead of second placed Shawn Milne of the Fiordifrutta team as he heads into anticipated stage 3 in NewHaven on Friday evening.
