Symington makes a timely move

Sara Symington (British National Team) took today's stage of Tour de L'Aude in a two up sprint against Luise Keller after the pair made a late break and held of the peloton for the final 12km of the race.

With Trixi Worrack in the yellow jersey after yesterday's courageous breakway, her Nurnberger team was quick to take control of the race, wanting to keep things together, or at least under control for the current race leader. Many breakaway attempts were immediately squashed and the peloton remained inact until the climb miday through the race.

The category one climb did cause attrition in the bunch but many of the dropped riders were able to get back shortly after the descent. Erinne Willock (Canadian National Team) attacked and was able to get a convincing gap on the field, but the headwind after the climb and Nurnberger's steady tempo caused her to be caught before long.

It was with 12km to go, on narrow roads, that a move by Symington and Keller caught the bunch napping. It took a while before a proper chase was organized because of the narrow roads and with neither of the riders being a threat to the general classification, Nurnberger was not too concerned. The pair were able to make it to the finish line with 30 seconds to spare. Symington won the sprint over Keller to take the stage, with Anita Valen (Team S.A.T.S) taking the bunch sprint for third place.

Worrack still safely holds the yellow jersey by 2'02" from Dede Barry (T-Mobile).

Tomorrow's race consists of two climbs mid race. The first climb is classified as a category 2 climb but has a very steep two kilometer section that is always tough. It is unlikely that this stage will affect the GC, but it is good stage for a breakaway.
