Marzano wins and takes pink jersey

Marco Marzano (VC Ceramiche Pagnoncelli) has won the crucial ninth stage of the Giro d'Italia U26 from Fabriano to Monte Terminillo (1700m) over 167 km, beating Domenico Pozzovivo (GS Zalf Desire' Fior) by 0'03 and Irish Philip Deignan (V.C. La Pomme Marseille) by 0'17. Marzano took over the pink jersey after overnight leader Alessandro Bertuola (IMA Moro Brugnotto Zotta) only finished 12th at 2'15 from the winner. However, the gap between the two is a mere second, setting things up for an interesting finale tomorrow.

The last stage is a 117 km circuit race that starts and finishes in Rieti. Given the difference between the top two riders on GC, this will be a big battle between VC Ceramiche Pagnoncelli and IMA Moro Brugnotto Zotta.
