Stage 2 - February 14: Andora criterium 88 km

Hamburger wins shortened stage

The second stage of the already shortened Giro della Liguria was changed to an 88 kilometre criterium held on a 2.2 kilometre circuit in Andora. 136 riders contested the 40 lap race, which saw a break of nine riders escape at the halfway point and stay clear to win. The break contained Bo Hamburger (Acqua & Sapone), Kirk O'Bee (Navigators), Mariano Piccoli (Lampre), Robert Forster (Gerolsteiner), Luis Perez (Cofidis), Yaroslav Popovych (Landbouwkrediet-Colnago), Paul Van Hyfte (Vlaanderen-T Interim), Stefano Boggia (Icet) and Daniele Masolino (Team LPR), and quickly gained a lead of 30", which turned out to be enough to ensure its success. With less than a kilometre to go, Bo Hamburger launched the winning move and managed to hold off American Kirk O'Bee (Navigators) by 2 seconds, with Daniele Masolino (Team LPR) taking third.

The Giro della Liguria will finish tomorrow with a 134 kilometre stage between Mignanego and Arenzano, including three climbs of the Passo dei Giovi (470m) at km 6, km 43 and km 80.
