Peña Peña completes the sweep

The first rider started at 2pm, the weather acceptable at first with some wind and clouds, but soon turned much worse.

A storm came up, and the last 20 riders on the course were soaked in a rainstorm Europeans would never expect, even in their worst nightmares. The sky cleared up a little by the time overall leader Flobert Peña Peña reached the finish, and after the line, his victory was complete: Peña Peña won the stage, the points classification, the combined classification and the overall classification of this year's Tour de la Guadeloupe.

Alexandre Lecoq finished 39th but still stayed within the top five. A fine stage race on a beautiful island has come to its end. The only regrettable topics have been the nasty doping scandal of some South-American riders at the very beginning, a commissaire's reaction that came too late, and some race officials that were not always as impartial as they claimed to be.
