In his last race before the travelling to Spain, the Giro d'Italia winner won the sprint in Arona ahead of Domina Vacanze riders Alexandr Kolobnev and Paolo Valoti. The winning break formed with 10 km to go, and also contained Saeco's Leonardo Bertagnolli. "I'm very happy because my condition is very good," said Cunego after the race. "We remained in a group of ten riders and with Bertagnolli we kept a high speed untill the finish, then in the sprint I was good, and I know that in this condition I can win. And I've done it in good sprint!"
