39th GP Pino Cerami - 1.3Belgium, April 8, 20042003 Results Results Past winners Sijmens wins Pino Cerami
With an attack with eight kilometres to go, Belgian Nico Sijmens (Landbouwkrediet) won the 39th edition of the GP Pino Cerami, the first Belgian winner since Paul Haghedooren in 1985. Sijmens was part of a small breakaway group with Martin Elmiger (Phonak), Thomas Dekker (Rabobank) and Dave Bruylandts (Jacques) filling out the next three places in that order. "There was a group of chasers coming, thus I chose for the attack," the winner explained to Het Nieuwsblad. "I was afraid of the fast Kirk O'Bee in a sprint and didn't want to take any risks." Sijmens, who finished third in Brabantse Pijl, is now aiming for the Rund um Köln and the Ardennes classics. PhotographyImages by AFP Photo
