McCauley sets the pace in NZ Time Trial Championship

Gordon McCauley won the New Zealand Time trial Championship at Napier yesterday, repeating his win of last year.
In windy conditions and on a "dead" surface he rode the forty kilometres in 52 mins 29 secs to beat Heath Blackgrove (53 mins 08 secs) and Glen Mitchell (53 mins 15 secs).
New Zealand track Squad member Peter Latham rode the second fastest time overall, 52 mins 44 secs to win the Junior Under 23 Title from Te Awamutu clubmate Tim Gudsell at 53 mins 43 secs with former World Junior Road Champion Jeremy Yates third in 53 mins 58 secs.
With the withdrawal of last years Champion Melissa Holt the Women's Championship became even more open when another former Champion Kirsty Robb withdrew during the race, suffering from a back injury, the legacy of a recent race crash. Dale Tye took the Gold with a 1 minute 16 secs advantage over her nearest rival Johanna Buick. International Ros Reekie May, only just back in the country finished fifth.
