Stage 4 - May 31: Roggiano Gravina - Cosenza, 98.7 km

Australian Team Report

By Brian Stephens, AIS U23 manager

The last stage of Giro Cosenza was one for the sprinters. We put all our faith in Aaron Kemps and the guys contributed to keeping the pace high throughout the 98km flat stage which finished with 6 laps of an 8km circuit in Cosenza. Things didn't go our way though with Gene Bates crashing with just over four laps to go. Peter Dawson and David Betts waited for him and helped him regain the group. The guys then got on the front and, along with the Daver team, lined the bunch out.

With 4km to go Aaron punctured and we had to switch to Peter Dawson to do the sprinting. He gave it a good try and ran 2nd to the Daver rider from Poland. (Unfortunately I don't have his name) Gene maintained his 10th place and Under 23 jersey and the rest of the GC remained the same with Antonio d'Arniello from Podenzana taking the win.
