International Cycling Classic/Superweek - NEEastern Wisconsin, USA, July 11-27, 2003Main Page Results Previous Day Next Day Day 7 - July 17: Saturn Humboldt Park CriteriumThe Schroeder Iron Pro Cycling Team returned to the International Cycling Classic tonight in dominating fashion to control the Saturn Humboldt Park Criterium and take the top two places. Teammates Aaron Olson and Pete Knudsen attacked at the gun along with Madison's Frank Pipp to lap the field after only 20 laps in this 80-lap race in very cool conditions. From there, the most impressive performance of the evening was by Schroeder Iron's Gordon McCauley who single-handedly controlled the remainder of the race for his teammates. McCauley, of New Zealand, set the pace for the entirety of the race and chased down any would-be attackers to preserve his teammates' advantage. In the final sprint, it was Olsen edging out his teammate Knudsen to take the win. The performance by the California-based team was reminiscent of their dominating performances at the 2002 International Cycling Classic in the debut year of their team. Although he did not race this evening, Viktor Rapinski retained the yellow jersey while joining many other riders in resting before tomorrow's big American Airlines Schlitz Park Challenge which features an extra $10,000 in prize money. Frank Pipp's inclusion in the leading breakaway helped to increase his advantage in the sprint points competition.
