International Cycling Classic/Superweek - NEEastern Wisconsin, USA, July 11-27, 2003Main Page Results Previous Day Next Day Day 11 - July 21: Ciao Café Tour of Holy Hill Road RaceSchroeder Iron executes perfectly at Holy HillReporting by Superweek Schroeder Iron seems to have a plan for every race since they arrived at the 2003 International Cycling Classic and for the most part they have succeeded with two victories and seven Top 5 finishes in only five races. Today at the Ciao Café Tour of Holy Hill road race, they executed their plan to perfection to take the top two places. Gordon McCauley, who has already made a name for himself at this year’s event with his strong performances each night, became the first two-race winner with teammate Aaron Olson finishing second. After the race, McCauley indicated that the team’s plan at Holy Hill was to attack early. That attack on the first lap of this hilly course produced a breakaway that swelled to eleven riders, including both McCauley and Olson. As the race wore on, the breakaway pulled away and the field behind began to disintegrate. More than half of the riders who started this race pulled out before the finish, the main pack dwindling to barely ten riders. In the breakaway, several riders dropped off the pace until only seven leaders remained with 25 miles to go. As they came to the line and climbed the final hill, McCauley pulled away from the field to cross the line alone with Olson following not far behind. Saturn’s Tim Johnson crossed the line in third place as the survivors of the race struggled to the line alone or in small groups. Overall race leader Viktor Rapinski took a rest day today but retains a comfortable lead going into tomorrow’s Noodles & Company Lake Front Road Race.
