Trophée d'Or Féminin - 2.9.2France, August 27-31, 2003Main Page Results Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 3 - August 29: Avord - Avord, 94kmWood takes stageBy Kristy Scrymgeour Australian Oneone Wood won the stage today after working hard to protect the yellow jersey of her teammate Olivia Gollan. Wood's win continues her successful season to date, a season which has brought her name to the elite ranks of women's cycling. On the flat stage surrounding the town of Aubigny, the Australian team set out to control the race for Gollan. They succeeded in doing this until the crosswinds hit midway through the race. The two french riders in the Rona team, Cathy Marsal and Magali Le Floch, then went on the attack and opened a big gap with Katie Mactier (Australian National Team) on her wheel. With Mactier sitting on, protecting her teammate Gollan, the french pair worked hard together but were eventually brought back to the field. The last 5km of the race were very technical and the pace was furious with riders fighting for wheels. Wood attacked with 400m remaining in the race and was able to hold off the chasing field led by Alison Wright. Marsal came aroung Wright in the last meters to take second place with Wright coming in third. Gollan finished safely in the field to hold on to her yellow jersey.
