Stage 2a - August 28: Les Aix les Avignons - St Martins sur Loire, 98 km

By Kristy Scrymgeour

Bad luck saw Australian Alison Wright (Road Runner -Guerciotti Cycling Team) lose the jersey today to her fellow Australian Olivia Gollan. With only 3km to go rain and a technical finish resulted in a 30 person crash consisting of Wright and many others and brought a new race leader to the stage. Wright was able to finish the race but lost too much time to keep the jersey.

The 98 km stage was fast and relatively flat, finishing with a lap of St Martins sur Loire. With the first rain in France in 3 months coming down, the roads were wet and slippery towards the end and of the day, which caused the crash in what was to be a bunch sprint. Sarah Ulmer won the sprint at the end of the day ahead of her compatriot Joanne Kiesanowski.
