52nd Paris-Bourges - 1.3France, October 3, 20022001 Results Results Past winners Johansen ends EDS fakta's season on a high noteEDS-fakta finished off their season in style with Allan Johansen winning Paris-Bourges, the final race in the Coupe de France series. Johansen, also winner of the Danish Post Cup, beat Geert Van Bondt (CSC-Tiscali) and Charles Guilbert (Bonjour) in a five man sprint. The 52nd edition of the race was held in cool conditions, with fine drizzle accompanying the riders for the early part of the race. An aggressive start saw Ludovic Capelle (Ag2r), Alexandre Chouffe (Oktos), Brad McGee and Baden Cooke (FDJeux.com), Médéric Clain (Cofidis), and Emmanuel Magnien (Bonjour) all attempting to get away, however they were caught after 30 km by a restless peloton. The attacks continued until Chouffe succeeded in escaping after 62 km together with Yuriy Krivtsov (Jean Delatour). The peloton stopped chasing them and their gap grew to 7'45 after 90 km. Several teams started to chase, but they did not cooperate well enough and the pair led by 8'10 after 120 km, with Christophe Kern (France) and Angelo Lopeboselli (Cofidis) chasing them separately. The peloton woke up before the base of the Côte de Chavignol, when Olivier Asmaker stirred them up by attacking before the climb. He was caught over the top but the peloton had been split to pieces. On the next climb of the Côte Du Graveron a group of 18 riders escaped, including Moreau (CA), Clain, Sassone (Cofidis), Van Bondt, Nicolas Jalabert (CSC), Hunt, Saugrain (BigMat), Halgand (Jean Delatour), Moos, Usov (Phonak), and Guilbert. The group was only 3'40 behind the two leaders Krivstov and Chouffe after 144 km. On the next climb of the Côte De Bue (151.5 km), Moreau put in another attack to bring the gap down to 1'30. More riders joined the group, including Tessier, Tombak, Mattan and Vasseur (all Cofidis), Renier (Bonjour), Vogondy (FDJeux.com) and Brochard (Jean Delatour). The main peloton followed at another minute, led by Magnien. Krivstov found himself alone on the next climb, with Chouffe dropping back to the chasing group, however Krivtsov could not hold them off for long and was caught at km 175. Jeremy Hunt (Big Mat) and Charles Guilbert (Bonjour) had just attacked at this stage, and maintained a small gap on the 30 riders left in the peloton. They were caught by four riders: Geert Van Bondt (CSC), Gilles Bouvard (Jean Delatour), Allan Johansen (EDS) and Cyril Saugrain (BigMat), forming a group of six at the front with 15 km to go. The leaders and the chasers raced towards the finish at over 60 km/h, keeping their 15 second gap by the time they reached Bourges. Saugrain led out as expected since his teammate Hunt is an excellent sprinter but Johansen managed to pass them for the win. It was Johansen's biggest win so far and the second within a fortnight, the other being the final stage of Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt.
