A new start: The Tom Danielson diary 2005

After his ill-fated stint with Fassa Bortolo in 2004, likable American climbing specialist Tom Danielson looks to have found a more conducive home for 2005 with Lance Armstrong's Discovery Channel team. Follow his diary on Cyclingnews as he rides alongside the Boss as part of Discovery's ProTour arsenal.

Exciting times, and even some quality time

Hey there!

On my way to Italy today. It has been so nice relaxing a bit with my wife Kristin between races, but now I am 'back in the office'. We've been trying to spend every minute together as we haven't seen each other too much. She has been great; traveling all over the world between her races, trying to squeeze in some time together as much as possible. Back to the Giro - I am excited for this race. Not because I have any expecations, but because it will be an important experience for the future.

I will be riding in support of Paolo [Savoldelli], a rider I have much respect for and, by helping him, I can learn more. He's won this race before and as a team we will do our best to give him every opportunity to do it again.

Eki's crash last week is very unfortunate. During the first part of this season I was very lucky to do some races with him and learn so much. He is a super rider and a super character. He will have no problem recovering and come back stronger then before. Throughout the Giro I will keep you guys updated on how it is going. It's very exciting to be a part of the Discovery Channel team this year, particularly coming into the Grand Tours and am very fortunate to be working hard for such a great group of people.
