A new start: The Tom Danielson diary 2005

After his ill-fated stint with Fassa Bortolo in 2004, likable American climbing specialist Tom Danielson looks to have found a more conducive home for 2005 with Lance Armstrong's Discovery Channel team. Follow his diary on Cyclingnews as he rides alongside the Boss as part of Discovery's ProTour arsenal.

A hard day

Stages 5 and 6 were tough. Freezing temperatures, rain, slippery roads, etc. I think you get the idea. Today was hard for everyone, but I would have to say the team looked good. This type of racing doesn't suit us well, but we did well and did good performances in the morning and TT stage. Johan was very good with tactics and we were able to keep everyone out of trouble in a day that basically had some big obstacle around every corner.

With a double day, not just the riders are hard pressed, but the staff has a huge work load. Discovery operated like clock work and even huge wind gusts before the TT that almost blew the tarp off our bus didn't stop our guys from making sure everything went smooth. With the team so flawless, it really encourages me to give everything I have to give back to the team.

Now we get ready for our next race, Klasika Primavera. I have not done it before, but am looking for more experience and fitness from it. On the same day George and co will be aiming for Paris Roubaix. I was fortunate to train with George a bit this Spring and he is truly amazing on the bike. Just riding next to him you can feel his focus for this race. It will be an exciting race to say the least! We all hope, well... you know what!
