A new start: The Tom Danielson diary 2005

After his ill-fated stint with Fassa Bortolo in 2004, likable American climbing specialist Tom Danielson looks to have found a more conducive home for 2005 with Lance Armstrong's Discovery Channel team. Follow his diary on Cyclingnews as he rides alongside the Boss as part of Discovery's ProTour arsenal.

March 30 - Paris-Camembert

Working for the boss

Yesterday I did Paris Camembert and it was a great time. I said in my last entry that I normally don't like one day races, but this one was different. Way different! What was the influencing factor you ask? Lance and the team. Even though the profile didn't suit us well, we raced great as a team and shaped the race.

I was really hoping Lance would win, but the climbs were super short and there was 10 km false flat downhill to the finish. In the finishing circuits the team went on the front and made a strong tempo to keep us at the front and make a selection in the field. Then on the last two climbs when all the craziness happened I did my best to make sure Lance had every shot to win. Despite a great effort from the team, and our directors Sean and Sheryl, Brochard made a well calculated attack near the finish and won. I was simply excited to be there to help Lance... man he looks strong! It was simply a privilege to be there with and learn from the best Tour rider of history.

So overall, Lance looked the strongest in the race, the team worked well together, and I can't wait to see what Lance does this year! Also, keep an eye on the classics team, George is flying right now and very focused, I don't think there is anything that is going to stop him this Spring.
