Tassie devil: The Sid Taberlay diary 2004

24 year-old Tasmanian Sid Taberlay is a man on a mission. The current Australian and Oceania mountain bike champion, Sid is, like so many athletes this year, striving for a berth at the Athens Olympics Games. But his never-say-die attitude, down-to-earth deameanour and a desert-dry sense of humour - not forgetting a bloody big motor! - puts Sid in the best position possible to realise a life-long dream.

That Olympic feeling

A quick two-week summary:

Flew home from Amsterdam via Tokyo, arriving home Thursday 24th June. Had the rest of the week off the bike, getting over my body clock dysfunction. Following week - easy training and getting back into home life, until Friday.

The Tasmanian paparazzi were on full alert for the official announcement of the Olympic Team; the phone was buzzing mad all day. Yes, I made the team with Chris Jongewaard and Lisa Mathieson!

This week is back to training. I will be doing four weeks of endurance and strength training at home before heading to Italy at the start of August. We have a one week training camp in Italy before heading to Athens. The MTB event is the second-last day, so I'll have two weeks in the Olympic village to get into the Olympic spirit!
