Another win on the board, but still plenty to learn

G'day everyone,

Things here are going OK; I have been racing a lot, so time at home as been short.

I have been getting a lot of experience out of the last month of racing and getting to know more about my body, coping with a heavy race programme and getting run down with illness in between trying to get some results.

It was great to ride Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix - at least for the time I was there, anyway!

It was great to get another victory in the Circuit de la Sarthe for the team and for me personally. But more then anything else, I now understand my body and realise recovery is one of the most important things about cycling, especially during times of illness and fatigue.

The last few months have been a good learning curve in my career. While my riding still has plenty of room for improvement, the biggest gains have been with my climbing and going from race to race, managing to get through tours without a lot of recovery. I think age and race experience are the big keys to help me to improve in the future.

I am young and in-experienced - it is important to remember that - but I am also very lucky to have Stevo [Neil Stephens, former ONCE rider] to talk to on these matters after coming home from races. Having being such an experienced and good professional cyclist himself, it makes it easier to comprehend certain things after having a rough time at a race.

Things here in the Basque country are starting to warm up; summer is on the way. Everything is very green it is very pleasant to train. Speaking of training…

All the best and until next time,
Alby (Allan Davis, ONCE-Eroski)
