Vai Dani! The Danilo Di Luca DiaryItalian speedster Danilo Di Luca from the Saeco-Longoni Sport Team is one of the sport's most exciting riders. Never afraid to attack and a very confident rider, Di Luca is at home in both hilly classics and bunch finishes. Between the end of the Vuelta and today a lot of things have happened...nice ones, like the World's won by Italy, the Giro di Lombardia of Bartoli and the final ups and downs of the transfer market. A lot of riders took well deserved vacations in November but there were also terrible moments like the bad earthquake in Italy or terrorism all over the world. Now all of that is behind us and with our first training camp, everything starts all over again. In mid-December, I went to Riccione with our old Saeco teammates and with some new faces. We were checking out the new material for the 2003 season like our Cannondale bikes and clothing, tires, eyewear and helmets...you name it. This first training camp is always important; even if it's only three days, because you get to know everyone and get your confidence established for next season. Right away, I found a good feeling with riders like Zanini and Fornaciari, who will be very important men for our Saeco team in 2003! During the training camp, perhaps the most important day is when we look at our program for next season...it's a face to face meeting with diesse Giuseppe Martinelli and now I can dream of some big wins next season...like LIEGI-BASTOGNE-LIEGI! So far this year since restarting my training, I've done over 1000km. I've been doing alternate rides of 2 and 4 hours and really been focusing on my agilita (fast pedaling). I don't want to spin too much now though; we are still in December. From January on, my training program will become more intense...I'll certainly be keeping you informed on how things are going! So to all of the readers of cyclingnews.com, I want to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season. Tante Auguri |
